Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio has been spotted chatting with his Manchester City counterpart Txiki Begiristain at the Etihad Campus today – but why is he there?
Italian news site calciomercato.it took some exclusive snaps of the Inter chief in the offices by City’s Academy Stadium, chatting to Txiki and others.
He could be in town for a number of reasons, even related to business with Inter’s weekend opponents Napoli, who not only face City tonight, but also saw their under-19s beaten 3-1 by the young Blues in the UEFA Youth League today, with Brahim Diaz scoring two.
If he is in town on transfer-related business, then the main theory from Italy is that Inter could be ready to try again for summer target Eliaquim Mangala, who failed to secure a move to the Serie A club before the transfer window shut, despite snubbing offers from Spartak Moscow, Stoke City and Crystal Palace.
Inter are still thought to be keen on the 26-year-old French international, especially with young prospect Zinho Vanheusden out long-term with a cruciate ligament injury.
There are also other names that may have been discussed between the two sporting directors, although there are very few notable players Pep Guardiola would be willing to cede in January, as he will look to use his full squad to compete on all fronts this season.
