After a long international break that saw the last stage of World Cup qualification for many nations, it’s back to club football and Manchester City will look to pick up where they left of with their breathtaking performance against Chelsea.
A different type of challenge awaits today and one that should not be underestimated. Mark Hughes’ Stoke City have won one, drawn one and lost one of their last three visits to the Etihad Stadium, an impressive record for a mid-table side, given the majority of them have poor records at the home of Manchester City.
Having had 15 players on international duty, City will hope to avoid being caught cold by Hughes’ side in today’s three o’clock kick-off and a win will keep the Blues at the summit of the Premier League.
Craig Pawson is today’s referee and here are the sides selected by Guardiola and former City boss Hughes:
Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, De Bruyne, Silva (c), Fernandinho, Sterling, Sane, Jesus
Stoke City XI: Butland, Edwards, Zouma, Wimmer, Pieters, Cameron, Fletcher, Diouf, Shaqiri, Choupo-Moting, Jese
