Stoke City could be without one of their star players when they visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday after Joe Allen was forced off injured playing for Wales last night.
It was a double blow for the 27-year-old, as Wales saw their World Cup qualification dreams die and Allen suffered a head injury that meant he had to come off in the 37th minute.
And this puts his involvement in doubt for Saturday when Stoke will hope to stall Manchester City’s momentum, something Mark Hughes’ side have been good at in recent years having picked up a win and draw in their last three visits to the Etihad.
Allen is Stoke’s fourth-most expensive player ever after joining from Liverpool in a £13million deal last year and his absence would be a boost for City, who have injury concerns themselves with Benjamin Mendy out, while both Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph are in a race against time to make it.
City host Stoke in a three o’clock kick-off on Saturday, looking to extend an unbeaten run in all competitions that stretches back to April. The Blues are top of the Premier League ahead of neighbours Manchester United on goal difference, with tricky fixtures against Liverpool and Chelsea already out of the way.
