Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has criticised the state of the pitch Belgium were forced to play on in their World Cup qualifier against Bosnia on Saturday.
Roberto Martinez’s Red Devils won an enthralling game at the Stadion Grbavica in Sarajevo by a 4-3 scoreline, but the match was played on a treacherous pitch that saw Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini forced off injured.
De Bruyne was worried he would have a similar fate and put in a performance well below his high standards on the muddy pitch.
“I was worried I’d get injured,” KDB said after the game. “This was unacceptable. I don’t understand how we could play on such a pitch. The last time I played on such a bad pitch was when I was a seven-year-old kid.”
Martinez also had nothing good to say about the pitch: “The pitch in Sarajevo was below any acceptable level. It was impossible to play with any tactics.”
We should probably be glad Vincent Kompany wasn’t back in time to play on this pitch…
