Man City confirm Benjamin Mendy has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee

Manchester City have officially confirmed that Benjamin Mendy has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

In a brief statement on the official site, City revealed that Mendy travelled to Barcelona to see a specialist doctor, who today confirmed the extent of his injury.

Mendy will undergo surgery in Barcelona tomorrow with a return date not specified by the club. This type of injury usually requires 6 to 9 months of recovery time, meaning Mendy’s season could be over and his World Cup status in doubt.

The 23-year-old has posted an update on Twitter, saying he will “be back soon”.

From everyone at City Watch, get well soon Benjamin!
