To the surprise of no one, Raheem Sterling will not be joining Arsenal in January, despite John Cross of the Mirror stating the Gunners would make a January move for the 22-year-old.
There would be absolutely no reason for Pep Guardiola to allow one of his regulars to go, considering Raheem is under contract and performing well. The England international scored 7 goals in 33 league appearances last season and is only two goals behind that tally six games into the current campaign.
Pep was asked about the chances of this deal happening in the winter transfer window and his response left no doubt.
“There is no question of that. He is not going to move. He is going to stay here,” Guardiola told the press.
The angle from John Cross is that Arsenal could offer Alexis Sanchez half a season early to get Sterling, but City are not looking short on goals this season and even if Arsenal reject an expected £20million bid for Sanchez in January, the Blues can sign the 28-year-old for free next summer unless he has a change of heart.
Alexis rejected interest from Bayern Munich and PSG during the summer to hold out for another spell with Guardiola, and City remain strong favourites to land the Chilean in the near future. And should he arrive at the Etihad Stadium, it will be to play alongside Raheem Sterling, not to switch places with him.
