Pep Guardiola has been speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Crystal Palace, where City will look to extend a long unbeaten run in the league.
The City boss commented on the injury situation and the news was good. Vincent Kompany is back in training and even İlkay Gündoğan wasn’t completely ruled out of tomorrow’s game.
“The injury situation is OK. Vinny has come back. Gündoğan we will see,” Pep told the press at the CFA.
Guardiola is happy with what he has seen so far this season, although after an incredible start to the last campaign which then went south, there can be no complacency. Even so, there is a feeling this season that the squad is better prepared for the long haul.
“Last season we started well, similar to this season. We have less points but I think it was a good season last season for many things.
“I think I am a good manager. We fight like a normal team. I believe in the quality of the way we play.”
On paper, Crystal Palace at home seems quite easy given their status as the Premier League’s bottom team, but Pep knows better than to underestimate anyone in this league.
“In the Premier League every team can beat the other one. (Palace) have quality. Second balls, crosses, set pieces. It will be similar to West Brom.”
Palace boss Roy Hodgson is a pensioner, but will Pep still be coaching at that age? Here’s this answer…
“Definitely not. I promise you. I love golf.”
One of the revelations so far in the Pep Guardiola era has been young Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, signed for what is looking like more and more of a bargain at £27million.
“Gabriel has helped us a lot. He is a top striker – there are a lot of things he can improve. I am excited to help him,” the Catalan coach said of Jesus.
Gabriel Jesus’ strike partner, Kun Aguero, needs no further praise or adulation. He has proven himself to be one of the Premier League’s all-time great goal scorers and is just three goals away from breaking Eric Brook’s City goal record. Pep has no doubt that he will break that record imminently.
“It is fantastic for Sergio to be here so long and break the club goalscoring record.. It is going to happen. He will get the record.”
