Pep Guardiola gives update on Ilkay Gundogan’s injury after German is forced off against West Brom

Pep Guardiola has told the press that İlkay Gündoğan isn’t seriously injured after he was the victim of a cynical foul by West Brom’s Claudio Yacob in tonight’s Carabao Cup win at The Hawthorns.

While there is no definite diagnosis or return time yet, Pep said it should not be a long-term absence.

“He will be back soon, hopefully. He will be assessed tomorrow. The physios have told me it is little,” Pep said after the game.

The injury isn’t considered too bad when compared to the one that kept Gündoğan out for nine months. Today marked the German’s first start in a competitive game since he returned and he was impressive, but is already set for another spell on the sidelines.

Yacob received a yellow card for the foul, which cut off an exciting box-to-box run by Gündoğan. Let’s hope this new injury doesn’t hamper Gündoğan’s career too much after his long road back to action!
