PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands has confirmed that Manchester City have struck a deal to sign USA under-20 captain Erik Palmer-Brown when his Sporting Kansas City deal expires at the end of the year.
There have been multiple reports of City agreeing a pre-contract for the 20-year-old, who has previous European experience from a loan spell at Porto B in 2016, and that has now been confirmed by Brands.
“In August we had contact with Erik Palmer-Brown’s agent about a transfer in the winter, but now he has signed for Manchester City,” Brands is quoted as saying by Voetbal International.
Despite missing out on Palmer-Brown’s signature, the Dutch giants are tipped to sign the American hot prospect on loan in January, with City unable to get an immediate work permit for him. PSV took Oleksandr Zinchenko on loan from City last season, and while that didn’t work out well for the Ukraine international, it appears City have faith in Phillip Cocu to continue Palmer-Brown’s development.
Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated recently revealed that City have beaten off interest not only from PSV, but also Porto, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund to sign Palmer-Brown, who will arrive on a free transfer in January.
