There is some good news for Manchester City ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Feyenoord in Rotterdam with the Dutch champions’ star striker set to miss the game through injury.
Nicolai Jørgensen, the 26-year-old Denmark international, was the Eredivisie top scorer last season, with his 21 goals in 32 games inspiring the club to their first league title since the 1998-99 season.
However, it’s not good news for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side after Jørgensen went down injured after just 22 minutes in Feyenoord’s 4-2 win over Heracles Almelo on Saturday, having to be replaced by Michiel Kramer.
Van Bronckhorst said after the game, “Chances are he misses City. I think it’s impossible for him to play in that match.”
It isn’t clear how long Jørgensen will be out of action, but the word from Holland is that he is definitely out of the Champions League tie with City, which will hopefully lead to City’s defenders having an easier time.
