Pep Guardiola is today celebrating the 10th anniversary since his first official game as a coach in Spain’s third tier. Pep’s coaching adventure began with Barcelona B and funnily enough, given his love of goals, it was a 0-0 draw in Premià that day.
A legend on the pitch, Guardiola’s debut on the touchline drew huge media interest and just like he does today as Manchester City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain watched his friend from the stands. The Catalan coach would guide Barça B to promotion that year with a young squad that included the likes of Sergio Busquets and Thiago Alcántara.
Little needs to be said of Pep’s career since then – everyone knows about it. His rise to coaching Barcelona’s first team and guiding them to a new golden era, his time at Bayern Munich, and now perhaps his most challenging project, Manchester City in the highly competitive Premier League.
Pep Guardiola has managed for 505 games in his decade as a coach, winning an incredible 21 major trophies. He has yet to win his first honour as City boss, but with a squad now shaped to his philosophy, it is surely just a matter of time.
