After widespread reports of interest and even bids being made, Manchester City will make no formal bid for Espanyol left-back Aarón Martín before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, Marca reports.
Many Spanish newspapers claimed last week that Pep Guardiola wanted to bring in the 20-year-old as a deputy for Benjamin Mendy, with no other specialist left-backs in the squad. Several are capable of filling the role, in particular Danilo, but only Mendy is a natural in the left-back position.
However, with the clock ticking and priorities now being getting deals for Alexis Sanchez and Jonny Evans done, Aarón won’t be heading to the Etihad it is reported.
Marca reveals that Espanyol staff were on alert in recent days in anticipation of an offer from Man City, but despite confirmed interest in the talented young full-back, no offers have arrived.
Aarón has a €30million release clause that goes up to €40million next summer, so if City want the player in a year’s time, he will cost much more than he would right now.
