Celtic want to tie up a loan deal for Manchester City defender Jason Denayer before the transfer window closes, according to a report on the back page of the Scottish Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old’s first ever loan spell away from the Etihad was at Celtic during the 2014–2015 season where he formed a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk, who could become the most expensive defender in history if he joins Liverpool in the next two days as rumoured.
Denayer is wanted by another former loan club, Galatasaray, who have been biding their time and hoping to corner City, who would prefer to sell for €7million-plus, for a loan on deadline day. That may backfire with Celtic, a popular destination for City youngsters, now looking to bring the Belgian back having already re-signed Patrick Roberts on a temporary deal.
The Parkhead club are said to be ‘exploring the possibility’ of another deal for Denayer with City before the transfer deadline.
Denayer agreed personal terms with Lyon earlier this summer only for City to veto a loan deal, preferring him to join sister club Girona FC in La Liga. He didn’t fancy that and has been in limbo ever since, but is expected to be on the move before Thursday’s deadline, with Celtic now offering another option.
