Manchester City are preparing to make a late swoop for Borussia Dortmund goal machine Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the transfer window closes, according to an exclusive report by le10sport in France.
The 28-year-old has been linked with City frequently over the past year and even admitted there had been talks last year, while there have been more reports this summer of Pep Guardiola remaining interested.
Claiming to have information from their own sources, le10sport state that an internal agreement in principle had been reached at Manchester City to make an offer for Aubameyang. The only thing required is Guardiola, who has the final say on all transfers at City, to give his green light.
Borussia Dortmund closed the door on Auba leaving at the end of July after PSG dropped their plans to sign him and free-spending AC Milan didn’t make a formal offer, despite serious interest. And with the departure of Ousmane Dembélé to Barcelona, the German club will be more reluctant than ever to sell their star player with just days remaining in the summer window.
Auba reportedly wants to join Man City and his view is that if Dembélé can leave the Westfalenstadion so late in the day, why can’t he?
Initially, BVB had requested €80million (£74million) from anyone wanting to buy Aubameyang, who has wanted a move away this summer, and in the current market that would seem to be a very fair price.
Alexis Sanchez has been Pep’s main target to strengthen the attack this summer, but if City’s final attempt to sign him fails, could a late move for Aubameyang be in the making?
