And in a surprise move, Spain’s all-time leading scorer David Villa, who plays for Manchester City’s sister club New York City FC, has been recalled at the age of 35 following his excellent form in MLS.

Meanwhile, in some very big news for two Man City youngsters, Brahim Díaz and Pablo Maffeo have won promotions to Spain’s under-21 squad, putting them just one step away from the senior squad.

Maffeo, 20, is on loan at Girona FC and is developing well in the senior game, while Brahim, who recently turned 18, has been promoted above his age group. Such is his talent and potential, Brahim has also overcome Spain’s reluctance to call up overseas-based players for their youth teams.
