France set to call up Manchester City new boy Benjamin Mendy despite injury

France boss Didier Deschamps could risk a confrontation with Manchester City by selecting Benjamin Mendy tomorrow for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Mendy last played a game of football on 13 June when he was forced off through injury during France’s 3-2 win over England at the Stade de France. And although he is almost ready to go after a lengthy thigh problem, City decided Monday night’s game against Everton was too early.

It is possible he could make his Man City debut against Bournemouth on Saturday, in which case City would have no choice but to accept his call-up to the French national team, but if they still don’t deem him ready to play, they may be less than happy to see their new £49.4million signing risked during the international break.
