He may be entering the final year of his contract, but Manchester City are ready to push the boat out to give Pep Guardiola the man he believes will give the Blues the most potent attacking force in Europe – Alexis Sanchez.
After a summer full of rumours and speculation, City now have just 12 days to convince Arsenal to cash in on the 28-year-old forward, something the North London club have shown no intention of doing so far.
But a report in the Sunday People claims Pep Guardiola is ready to offer an incredible £70million for a player he could have for free next summer, such is his desire to add Alexis to his Man City squad.
And City believe that may be too much for Arsenal to resist, an unprecedented amount of money for a player with so little time left on his contract.
On Monday, Matt Law of the Telegraph said City would make a £60million bid, while there was a claim from El Mercurio in Chile that Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, told them that Arsenal had rejected a £45million bid from City.
It seems almost certain that City will have one last go for Alexis before the window slams shut on August 31. Should they fail, it has been suggested that the club could make late efforts to sign Kylian Mbappé of Monaco or Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembélé.
The renowned Henry Winter of The Times believes Arsenal will cave in and sell Alexis before the end of the month.
“I assume he’s gonna leave in this window. Unless he is going to be 100 per cent committed what is the point of holding on to him? Are they going to offer £300,000 a week? I’m not sure they will,” Winter said on The Times’ The Game podcast.
