Manchester City and Arsenal have expressed interest in signing former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports.
Both N’Zonzi and his representatives have told his current club, Sevilla, that he wants to leave before the transfer window closes, and with just half a month remaining until it does, the La Liga club could offer a slight discount on his release clause.
N’Zonzi has a €40million (£36.5million) release clause, but Sevilla may allow a buying club to pay €35million (£32million) with the discounted €5million (£4.5million) to be paid in future bonuses.
City and Arsenal have both made ‘extensive inquiries’, SportItalia journalist Pedulla claims, while Juventus could also rekindle their interest in the 28-year-old, who has been excellent since his move from Stoke to Sevilla in 2015.
Pep Guardiola’s side were linked with N’Zonzi in January when it was thought that City could add a midfielder, but nothing came of that. With the player now wanting out at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, a new opportunity could arise for City to strengthen the holding midfield role.
Good relations between City and Sevilla would also help a hypothetical deal, with the clubs doing deals both ways in recent years, including Álvaro Negredo and Jesús Navas’ moves to the Etihad, Samir Nasri’s loan switch to Sevilla, and Nolito’s recent permanent transfer to the Andalusian club.
