Inter have their eyes on one Manchester City centre-back, while being offered another, two Italian newspapers report today.
The famous Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Nicolas Otamendi is on the Italian club’s radar as they search for a new defender, having failed in pursuits of PSG’s Presnel Kimpembe and Issa Diop of Toulouse.
And at 29, Otamendi would bring strength and experience to the Inter back line. In the ‘next few hours’, Inter will discover if any deal is possible for the Argentina defender. Given City’s shortage of numbers in the position, with Pep Guardiola ideally wanting one more, the Serie A club may find it difficult to talk City into selling a starter.
A player they could have more luck with is Eliaquim Mangala, who could yet enjoy a reprieve at City, but only if Guardiola fails to add a new centre-back before the transfer window closes.
According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, Inter are the second Italian team after Juventus to have been offered the 26-year-old by an intermediary, who made it clear that Man City would be willing to pay a percentage of Mangala’s considerable salary.
Inter boss Luciano Spalletti is reflecting on this option, knowing there are other possibilities. Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen is another candidate for the Nerazzurri, but Mangala could certainly prove a tempting option for China-backed Inter.
