Manchester City have beaten Newcastle United to the signing of Nigerian international striker Olarenwaju Kayode from Austria Wien, OwnGoal Nigeria has revealed.

The 24-year-old was the top scorer in Austria’s top flight last season, scoring 17 goals in 33 games for Austria Wien, in addition to scoring two goals in two games against AS Roma in the Europa League. He also has several caps for the senior Nigeria national side.

And according to OwnGoal Nigeria, Kayode has already passed his medical and will soon join Girona FC on loan, where four other City players are to spend the 2017-18 season.

There had been reports that Kayode was all set to join Newcastle, but one of Pep Guardiola’s famous phone calls is said to have made the difference, with Pep convincing the Nigerian to join City before heading to Catalonia with Girona FC.

Here is a photo of the player at the Etihad Campus, seemingly confirming his arrival.
