Manchester City are in no hurry to land Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal and are willing to wait until the end of the transfer window for one of Pep Guardiola’s main targets, according to an exclusive report by the Daily Star Sunday.
In recent days, much of the talk has been about a possible deal for Kylian Mbappé of Monaco, but City remain keen to sign 28-year-old Alexis, who can leave the Gunners for free in a year’s time if they refuse to cash in on him now.
And City are confident that Sanchez wants to join them this summer, with the Daily Star reporting that they will leave the door open until the end of the window, which closes at the end of August.
Etihad chiefs still feel that Arsenal may take a pragmatic approach and decide to sell Alexis for around £45million, money that could be reinvested in the squad, rather than let him walk for nothing in the summer of 2018.
Arsene Wenger has been consistent with his stance, repeatedly stating that Alexis will be going nowhere this summer, and he appears to have the support of the Arsenal board on that.
City haven’t given up though, but the increasing number of links to Monaco sensation Mbappé may be a sign that they are working more actively towards signing him, while playing the waiting game for Alexis.
