Alexis Sanchez is due back in training at Arsenal on Sunday after an extended break following the FIFA Confederations Cup, but where he will be playing his club football next season remains a mystery.
Manchester City remain in pursuit of the 28-year-old, despite also showing genuine interest in signing Monaco’s Kylian Mbappé. Both forwards have been on Pep Guardiola’s radar all summer, although having spent so much money, it is likely that only one of them would arrive supposing deals were struck with their clubs.
And it now seems clear that Alexis wants Manchester City and another spell with the great Pep Guardiola, with hosts of reports from around the globe claiming this.
But Arsenal are not willing to relinquish their Chilean ace that easily and so far have refused to do business with City, leaving fans of both clubs waiting for his return and personal involvement. Will he force the issue? Will he accept Arsene Wenger’s position and wait a year to join City on a free transfer?
One player who has made no secret of the fact he’d like Sanchez at the Etihad Stadium is his close friend, compatriot and Man City goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo.
Speaking to 24 Horas in Chile, Bravo is quoted as saying today, “If he decides to go, we’ll wait for him with open arms at City.”
It was quite a bold thing for Bravo to say given that players generally keep quiet about such big potential transfers, but the arrival of Alexis Sanchez at Manchester City would undoubtedly be one of the biggest moves of the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Alexis’ return to training at Arsenal is in doubt, with the player posting a selfie on Instagram telling fans that he is suffering from the flu.
