Manchester City will be without new big money signing Benjamin Mendy for a while, with the French international requiring two or three weeks to recover from a niggling muscle problem.
Following City’s impressive 4-1 win over Real Madrid in Los Angeles earlier, Pep Guardiola revealed that Mendy will miss the start of the season, as will German midfielder İlkay Gündoğan who is in the latter stages of recovery from a knee ligament injury that has kept him out of action for seven months.
Gündoğan has been stepping up his recovery during pre-season, but the club will want to make sure that the 26-year-old is fully over such a serious injury before bringing him back into the fold.
David Silva, who has yet to play a minute during the US tour, will be available for the start of the new campaign, Pep confirmed.
Veteran midfielder Fernandinho has a slight injury, but nothing too serious and he could be back for the weekend game against Tottenham.
