NAC Breda have announced that Spanish defender Pablo Marí, who recently arrived on loan from Manchester City, will captain the team for the 2017-18 season.
23-year-old Marí has made a quick impression on head coach Stijn Vreven, who has been impressed by the stamp the player has already put on the team. Both on and off the pitch, Marí has shown the qualities of a leader which has led to him being handed the armband for the new campaign.
If Marí is injured, another City loanee, Manu García, will be one of the two candidates to take over as captain – the other being Arno Verschueren.
Marí was signed from Gimnàstic de Tarragona last August for an undisclosed fee. City had no plans to use him in their own first-team and the idea was to farm him out to Girona FC to aid their promotion push to La Liga. After few chances at the Catalan club, he is now in the Netherlands and has clearly made a bright start.
