Citizens and Gunners alike are probably hoping that the Alexis Sanchez saga can come to an end soon, preferably long before the transfer window closes.
From all corners of the globe come different stories about the player’s future. Arsene Wenger has publicly declared that the decision is made, Alexis stays, and that is final. El Mercurio, a well-respected newspaper in Alexis’ homeland, tells us that Pep has given Alexis a ‘mission’ to personally convince Wenger to let him go.
And now, from France comes news from Le Parisien, a newspaper always worth taking seriously for PSG stories, that the Ligue 1 giants are ‘very close’ to reaching an agreement with the 28-year-old. Antero Henrique, PSG’s sporting director, has been negotiating with Alexis Sanchez’s agent ‘for days’ and they have made progress.
It has been said that Sanchez has demanded huge wages from PSG but if the news from Le Parisien is accurate, that hurdle has almost been overcome and Alexis would earn a salary similar to those that Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva receive.
The big story yesterday was that Neymar is close to joining PSG and it seems unlikely both he and Alexis will end up at Parc des Princes, especially when Neymar would set the Parisiens back a world record fee of around €220million. It’s possible that they will sign one or the other (if they’re lucky), with Sanchez perhaps lined up in the event that a deal for Neymar collapses.
So there you have it: Arsenal are refusing to sell Alexis Sanchez, who has agreed terms with PSG, but wants to join Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola telling him to find a way out of Arsenal. Expect more twists and turns in the Alexis media circus yet, unless that is the player comes out and makes his intentions crystal clear.
