Spanish football expert Graham Hunter has told Sky Sports News today that Manchester City are well and truly in the race for football’s most sought-after young player, Kylian Mbappé.
It is well documented that Mbappé, who was part of the Monaco side that sent the Blues crashing out of last season’s Champions League, is on Pep Guardiola’s radar, but Hunter’s comments today suggest there are active talks going on.
“Manchester City are talking actively to Mbappé’s representatives and saying ‘Come here, this is where to develop better than anywhere else. Pep Guardiola. We will give you game time. We will teach you. We will pay you handsomely.’
“Real Madrid, meanwhile, are wooing Mbappé’s agents saying they will break the transfer record for this kid. Zidane, of course, has known Mbappé since he was 14.
“The battle is with Manchester City and they are persuasive and Mbappé is now thinking long and hard between London, Madrid, Paris and now Manchester. City are in that battle.
“At the moment it’s hard to see him choosing Monaco over one of those, but none of clubs know who is favourite to sign this exceptional 18-year-old.”
Any deal for Mbappé would undoubtedly mean a new world transfer record, but it seems City are very much in the battle to sign the Monaco sensation.
