Manchester City hope to have both Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy signed by Monday so that the two can fly to the US with their new teammates.
And the principality club have today announced that Mendy will miss the next stage of their pre-season campaign in Switzerland, from Thursday 13 July to Wednesday 19 July.
The official reason given is that Mendy is recovering from a right thigh injury suffered while on international duty with France. However, it is quite common for players not to train before they are about to be transferred to avoid risking an injury, so it is quite possible that this is a further sign of where Mendy is heading.
The summer has started to drag since the early captures of Bernardo Silva and Ederson Moraes, with disappointing news earlier this week that Dani Alves went back on a verbal agreement to join Pep Guardiola at City, instead opting for PSG.
However, things have accelerated quickly today and unless of any major surprises we are now just days away from welcoming two elite full-backs to the Etihad Stadium, with City’s summer plans well and truly back on course.
