Could Manchester City be discreetly planning one of the blockbuster deals of the summer for the most sought-after player in world football?
Today’s edition of L’Equipe has the stunning claim that Pep Guardiola recently had dinner with Monaco boy wonder Kylian Mbappé and his family to discuss the potential of a move to the Etihad.
The suggestion from L’Equipe is that if anyone is going to challenge PSG for Mbappé it could well be City, although other European clubs may make themselves known as Mbappé is considered almost a once-in-a-generation talent.
In France, the word is that PSG have launched a big charm offensive to ‘seduce’ Mbappé away from Ligue 1 rivals Monaco, with talk of the Parisiens being prepared to smash the world transfer record to sign the 18-year-old.
After a first meeting between Nasser al-Khelaïfi, the PSG president, and the player’s entourage, coach Unai Emery met his father, Wilfried Mbappé, last weekend.
PSG’s financial commitment is so strong that even the powerful Real Madrid have shied away from Mbappé, one of Florentino Perez’s summer targets, because they simply cannot match what PSG are willing to pay both the club and player.
For City, much of the transfer budget this summer has been allocated to the acquisition of defenders, and Mbappé may only be a realistic possibility should a move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez not pan out – something that remains possible with the Gunners now said to want over £90million to even consider a sale.
