Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are both willing to pay the €200million (£176.6million) release clause of Barcelona superstar Neymar, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola of Yahoo! Esportes and ESPN claims.
It would be the biggest deal in world football this summer were either of the wealthy European sides to pull it off, with Neymar considered by many experts in the field to be the most marketable player in the sport.
And besides his talent on the pitch, it is his value off it that appeals to emerging clubs like City and PSG, Jorge Nicola reports. In order to transform Manchester City into a world power, Pep Guardiola understands the need for a global star and believes Neymar would be the most plausible.
It is reported that the world record fee is not the biggest obstacle for City and PSG, as strange as it sounds, but rather convincing the 25-year-old to leave Catalonia and the company of Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. The trio make up a destructive attacking force and off the pitch Neymar also enjoys his lifestyle in Barcelona.
If either club could convince Neymar to make the switch, Barcelona would be powerless once either triggered his €200million release clause. That is a big ‘if’ and this seems an unlikely deal for either club – but what a statement it would be.
