19-year-old Manchester City right-back Pablo Maffeo is set to return to Girona FC for a season long loan, claim L’Esportiu. But could today’s Dani Alves news scupper that that deal?
The Spanish U-19 international benefited from a positive loan at Girona last season, helping them gain promotion to La Liga for the first time in their history. Maffeo’s loan was his second at Girona and Catalan newspaper L’Esportiu claim he is set for his third as the club establishes itself in Spain’s top-flight league.
Pablo Maffeo didn’t take part in pre-season training yesterday and was not visible at the CFA training complex. Instead, Maffeo is expected to start training at Girona on Monday with Pablo Machin’s team. The young right-back racked up 542 minutes in his first Girona loan and 1,106 minutes in his second, showing his steady progress and increasing importance to the side.
But will City sanction the deal after Alves’ snub and the ongoing struggles to sign Kyle Walker?
Dani Alves was supposed to be the first right-back to join this summer but with his move to PSG all but sealed, Manchester City could embark on their pre-season tour without a single recognised right-back – if Pablo Maffeo is allowed to go out on loan.
