Manchester City are still confident of signing free agent Dani Alves after widespread reports that PSG have managed to snatch the 34-year-old from under their noses.
In an obvious briefing to the northern press, City have let it be known that they’ve received no indication from Alves or his representatives that the situation has changed, with the Brazilian due in Manchester for a medical early next week.
However, James Ducker of the Telegraph does confirm that PSG are in play and are actively trying to hijack the deal – something Blues bosses must be wary of.
Even so, there is confidence at the Etihad that Alves will stick to his verbal agreement, especially given the close ties he and Pep Guardiola have. The player has spoken about his dream of playing in England before he retires, so it would be a strange decision to join PSG on a whim after telling Juventus he wants to leave for a Premier League experience.
Alves spent yesterday getting married to Spanish model Joana Sanz in Ibiza, on the same day he was allegedly in talks to join the Parisiens.
