Ederson Moraes, who was Manchester City’s second signing of the summer when he arrived from Benfica in a £34.9million deal, has been voted the best goalkeeper of the 2016-17 Portuguese league season by his fellow players and coaches.
The 23-year-old was presented with the award on Friday and beat Rui Patrício of Sporting and Vaná of Feirense to the honour.
Speaking after receiving his award, Ederson said, “I’m very happy for this award, and I want to thank all of my teammates for helping me win it.
“I also want to thank the Benfica supporters for this fantastic season.”
Ederson was a rock in goal last season as Benfica finished 6 points ahead of rivals FC Porto to win the league title, with the Águias conceded just 18 goals in 34 Liga NOS games. The Brazilian’s performances both in the league and Champions League caught the eye of Pep Guardiola and City splashed out a huge fee to make him their new number one.
