The wait goes on for any sign that Benjamin Mendy is flying to England to join Manchester City. The player has made it clear that he wants the move and the latest news is that City and Monaco must agree a fee, with the Ligue 1 side holding out for top dollar.
There have been whispers that it could be imminent and a sudden change in the bookmakers’ odds on Mendy to City last night may add weight to those claims.
Out of nowhere, odds on Mendy moving to the Etihad at Sky Bet plummeted to 1/8, the sort of shift that suggests big money has been laid down, often the result of insider information. If you recall, the same thing happened with Bernardo Silva shortly before he joined City out of nowhere.
Unlike when his friend and teammate Bernardo joined City, Mendy’s transfer to City will surprise no one if and when it goes through – but the sluggish progress of this deal in recent weeks has caused some worry amongst Blues that it could be in danger of collapsing.
However, if the sudden change in odds is anything to go by, we may well be on the verge of welcoming one of Europe’s most highly-rated young full-backs to Manchester City.
