Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy has told club leaders and coach Leonardo Jardim that he wants to move to Manchester City in the past few hours, L’Equipe reports.
City’s interest in the 22-year-old French international is no secret, but after various reports of a deal being close or done, he is still a Monaco player.
But despite interest from Chelsea and Liverpool in signing him, Mendy made it clear on Friday that he only wants to join City this summer.
Monaco’s position has been that unless they receive an ‘exceptional offer’, Mendy will remain at the club next season, and the player’s actions today could be seen as a way to push through a deal quickly.
The two clubs have been in continuous contact since discussing the transfer of Bernardo Silva to the Etihad earlier this summer, but in recent days there have been further talks about a deal for the highly-rated Mendy, one of the players who impressed as Monaco sent City crashing out of last season’s Champions League.
The principality club value Mendy between €40million (£35million) and €45million (£39.5million) and the hope now will be that with the player urging them on, Monaco will reach a compromise with Manchester City.
