Despite the many claims of Manchester City being close to a deal for Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, journalist Duncan Castles is insisting that Juventus star Alex Sandro is still Pep Guardiola’s main target for the position.
In a lengthy article for the Daily Record, Castles says what we all know – that City are in talks to land Dani Alves – before incredibly claiming that the Blues are attempting to hijack Chelsea’s bid to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus.
Alex Sandro has been a target for City over the past couple of years and is said to have been one of Pep Guardiola’s dream signings last summer, but instead City focused on other positions forcing a massive overhaul of the left and right-back positions this summer.
There have been many reports that Chelsea are on the cusp of signing Alex Sandro, but if news of City’s re-entry into the bidding is true, it raises many questions, such as where the deal for Benjamin Mendy is at. Castles is going against the grain with the Alex Sandro reports, with almost every other journalist of note expecting Mendy to arrive soon.
Castles also reports that while City were initially enthusiastic to sign Monaco midfielder Fabinho this summer, they have stepped away from him and the Brazilian is set to join the principality club’s domestic rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
