Since multiple sources broke news of strong interest from Real Betis in Manchester City outcast Nolito last week, things have gone a little quiet.
In Spain, there is some doubt that Betis could finance a move, even a €3 million to €4 million loan fee if Man City bosses agreed to a temporary deal, something they are known to be quiet open to, even with big names, after high-profile stars Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri and Wilfried Bony were loaned out last year.
A club which could afford Nolito without any problems is Atletico Madrid, one of those who were interested in signing the Spain international before he agreed to join City. And according to AS, something has happened today that could hint at Nolito joining Los Colchoneros.
Nolito’s lawyer, Rafael Coto, has today been spotted at the Vicente Calderón, home (for a while longer) of Atletico, raising speculation in Spain that a transfer could be in the making. However, it may not necessarily be for Nolito as Coto also represents Keita Baldé, the highly-rated Lazio striker who is also admired by Atletico.
Atletico have never hidden the fact that they like Nolito and should he be on their agenda, a deal could happen without too much fuss, with Pep Guardiola barely using him in 2017 and the player open to a move as he tries to win his place back in Julen Lopetegui’s Spain squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
