Watch: Manchester City defender involved in brawl in Belgium

A video has emerged over the last couple of days of Manchester City defender Jason Denayer, currently on loan at relegated Sunderland, appearing to kick a person during a brawl in Brussels.

The 21-year-old is on holiday in his native Belgium after the end of the Premier League season and has admitted being involved, although says it was purely in a defensive manner. Speaking to Belgian press, Denayer said:

“I was on my way to my car when I heard a friend shouting, I saw that my friend was in danger and had to intervene.

“I responded instinctively. My sole purpose was to protect my friend.”
