In the past week, two Spanish sources, Mundo Deportivo and Radio Marca Sevilla, have linked 27-year-old Sevilla and Spain winger Vitolo with a move to Manchester City, FC Barcelona or Atletico Madrid.
A player with good technique and work ethic, Vitolo has the versatility that would seem to appeal to Pep Guardiola – he has played all over the pitch for Sevilla this season, with WhoScored having information of him playing in TEN different areas of the pitch in the 2016-17 campaign.
More information on this potential deal has emerged from Marca and pours water on the idea of Manchester City making any immediate move for the former Las Palmas winger.
According to the Madrid-based newspaper, Pep Guardiola has asked about the player’s situation. Vitolo is represented by the same agency as Jesús Navas, who City are trying to convince to stay at the Etihad, but it looks more and more likely that he will return to Sevilla. City requested some information from the agency on Vitolo, but at the moment do not plan to make a bid, since their priorities are in other positions.
This doesn’t mean that City’s interest in Vitolo is dead and they may well return to this idea later in the summer, but he is not top of their list as things stand.
Sevilla’s message to interested parties is clear: pay Vitolo’s €40 million release clause or nada. Barcelona are put off by this price-tag, and it is Atletico Madrid who seem the likeliest to sign the Spain international with Yannick Ferreira Carrasco and Nicolás Gaitán, players of the same position, being made available for sale by Diego Simeone.
