Everton are preparing for life after Romelu Lukaku, who looks poised to join Chelsea in one of the biggest deals of the summer – and their replacement could be an out of favour Manchester City youngster.
According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Everton boss Ronald Koeman sees Kelechi Iheanacho as a possible replacement for Lukaku, should the Belgian goal machine depart Goodison Park.
20-year-old Iheanacho has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, behind Sergio Agüero and newcomer Gabriel Jesus. The Nigerian international even struggled for minutes during Gabriel Jesus’ long-term absence through injury, and his future is in doubt heading into the summer.
Hoffenheim and Southampton have been linked with a loan move for Iheanacho, who scores or assists a goal every 72.6 minutes for City, but a bid of around £20 million could tempt Guardiola into selling his back-up striker, allowing him to reinvest the funds in what promises to be a very busy transfer window at the Etihad.
