Last summer, a saga developed when legendary transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio announced that Manchester City were optimistic of closing a deal for Borussia Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Safe to say, Manchester City fans were very excited by this story. Di Marzio doesn’t get much wrong, but this story never developed, with City quickly denying anything was going on and no transfer taking place, despite interest being confirmed by various sources.
A year later and other forwards are linked with a move to the Etihad, such as Arsenal hot-shot Alexis Sanchez and Monaco’s next big thing, Kylian Mbappé.
But according to Nabil Djellit of France Football, Pep Guardiola’s interest in the 27-year-old Gabonese international is still active. Djellit says that in addition to Auba, Pep also likes Mbappé, but a summer deal for either would depend on the future of Sergio Agüero.
Agüero doesn’t appear to be going anywhere after his representative Hernan Reguera said on Saturday that as things stand, Kun is “100 per cent” staying.
Even if City’s iconic Argentine does remain, other media sources believe Guardiola is in the market for another forward, and a move for Aubameyang would certainly add even more firepower to a top-heavy City squad, but one that has lacked ruthlessness at times this season.
Aubameyang has an offer on the table already, with France Football reporting that he has a proposal from China that would make him the highest paid footballer in the world. The lure of China’s wealth is hard to resist and Aubameyang is said to be thinking about it.
