Real Betis are in talks to sign out-of-favour Manchester City winger Nolito, according to various sources in Spain.
Veteran journalist Nacho Vento of Canal Sur and Onda Bética both report that talks have accelerated between the Spanish club and City over a deal to return the 30-year-old to his homeland.
Nolito is said to have a personal agreement already with Betis and Onda Bética claim that it is ‘only a matter of time’ before City bosses approve the transfer.
Betis hurried up talks when they were tipped off that arch-rivals Sevilla were showing interest in the Spain international, who has agreed to lower his salary, which will still be shared between Manchester City and Betis.
Next year there is the World Cup and Nolito wants to work his way back into Julen Lopetegui’s squad, having lost his place since falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola. The player, who started brightly at City, has not started a single Premier League game for City in the year 2017.
The Andalusian club are hopeful of recruiting Quique Setién as their new coach soon, and coupled with the signing of Nolito, believe this will lift them up the table. The club sit just three places above the relegation zone (but are safe) with a game to go in the current La Liga campaign.
Though reports are still sketchy, the wording of these stories suggests it will be a permanent transfer, rather than a loan deal, but more details are sure to follow.
