AS Monaco have rejected an €80 million (£68 million) bid for the hottest property in world football, Kylian Mbappé.
Reliable French source RMC Sport reports the news tonight that Monaco have said no to an enormous offer from an unnamed club and, for now at least, refuse to consider his departure.
The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in years, scoring 25 goals in all competitions this season. This has alerted many wealthy European clubs, such as Manchester City, Manchester United and Real Madrid, to name a few.
It could be said that City were ahead of the pack as their French scout recommended Mbappé last summer, leading to the Blues having £34.5 million bid rejected for a player who at that time had scored just 1 goal in 14 appearances for Monaco’s first-team.
A year later and even double City’s former offer won’t be enough to land Monaco’s golden boy. RMC reports that Real Madrid could soon tempt Monaco with an incredible offer of €100 million (£85 million), with Monaco knowing they can earn something close to or in excess of the current world record fee, set last year when Paul Pogba joined United.
Mbappé himself has still not decided his future and a year from the World Cup, will want to choose carefully in order to boost his chances of making the France squad. But with envious eyes on him, Monaco may soon receive an offer that they simply can’t refuse. Could it come from Manchester City or another Premier League club?
