Patrick Roberts has made a huge impression on loan at Celtic and the Scottish giants are keen to get him back for a third year, following an impressive 18-month loan spell in Glasgow.
Many City fans want the 20-year-old back and in Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans next season, but the England under-20 international’s future is still yet to be defined.
Celtic want Roberts to return and according to an exclusive report by The Sun are willing to hand over a considerable sum for another loan term.
£500,000 is the amount that Celtic are willing to pour into Manchester City’s coffers to try and convince them to hand over winger Roberts for another season on loan – but it may not be enough.
Guardiola plans to assess Roberts during City’s tour of America in the summer, and only after that will he decide what lies ahead for the former Fulham youngster. It is also unclear if Roberts would want to return to the Scottish Premiership, despite enjoying his spell there, with offers from tougher leagues likely to arrive.
In recent months, City have relied heavily on wingers Leroy Sané and Raheem Sterling, leading to both suffering a drop in form. Jesus Navas has been used more as a right-back and his future is still uncertain despite a new one-year offer from City chiefs.
City’s other winger, Nolito, has almost fallen off the face of the earth in 2017, limited to the occasional minutes here and there, and doesn’t seem to be part of Guardiola’s long-term plans. This would seem to present an opening for Roberts to return to the Etihad and get plenty of game time next season.
