Last summer it was Nolito, is it Vitolo’s turn to rock up at Manchester City this summer?
In an interesting story from Spain today, it is reported that Barcelona have learned that both Manchester City and Atlético Madrid have shown interest in one of their summer targets, Vitolo of Sevilla.
The 27-year-old winger has enjoyed an excellent season at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, putting him on the radar of several clubs, and Mundo Deportivo claims Barça have been informed that Txiki Begiristain has made some sort of contact with Sevilla to register an interest in the player.
Vitolo has a £40 million (£33.5 million) release clause at Sevilla and though predominantly a left winger, he is highly versatile and WhoScored data shows that he has played in TEN positions this season – even as a striker!
Were City to follow up on their interest and go for Vitolo, he would probably replace another Spain international, Nolito, who signed last summer from Celta Vigo, but after showing early promise failed to impress Pep Guardiola and has rarely been seen of late.
The likelihood is that Manchester City made a polite inquiry as they considered their summer options and this will go no further, but it appears that Vitolo has at least been considered by Pep Guardiola as part of the upcoming overhaul at the Etihad.
