SIX Manchester City players have made the latest WhoScored Team of the Week, including the entire defence that started against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The stats-based website draws data from Opta and automatically creates player ratings based on that, and this weekend’s performance against Sam Allardyce’s side was pleasing on a statistical level, as well as on the eyes.
In addition to Kompany, Otamendi, Fernandinho and Clichy, the outstanding Kevin De Bruyne (the only player to rank a perfect 10) and Gabriel Jesus also made the team. Jesus didn’t score against Palace, but registered an assist and put in a tireless performance.
After a year of uneven performances and criticism aimed at the City defence, it is nice to see it recognised after a strong performance. The return of club captain Vincent Kompany, who is staying at the club next season, has certainly made a difference.
