Just when you thought every possible transfer rumour had been exhausted come the reports that Jose Mourinho wants Sergio Aguero at Manchester United.
Duncan Castles, a journalist known to be close to Jose Mourinho (his public cheerleading of the United boss kind of gives that away), is reporting in this week’s Sunday Times that Jose wants to offer Sergio the chance to swap blue for red this summer.
And despite claims from Castles that Guardiola has made his leading goalscorer available for transfer, he writes that any ambitious move by United to sign the scorer of City’s most famous goal is expected to be blocked.
The United boss wants an elite-level striker to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is on his way out of Old Trafford, and with the best goals-per-minutes ratio in Premier League history, El Kun certainly can be classified as elite.
The report in The Sunday Times also claims that United would be willing to match or better Aguero’s current contract, which runs until 2019, and of course pay a significant transfer fee.
Of interest, The Sun on Sunday has a similar story, claiming United will test City’s resolve with a £55 million bid for 28-year-old Aguero.
In reality, United could offer £100 million, but it is doubtful that anyone at City would sanction such a controversial deal that would certain enrage fans. A move for Joe Hart, also linked with United, might have a greater chance of success for our neighbours.
