Every day a new player seems to be linked with a move to Manchester City. Every summer it is the same and it takes a while for the real targets to become crystal clear.
One of the more tenuous rumours of late involved promising Villarreal winger, Samu Castillejo, a 22-year-old Spain under-21 international. Capable of playing on the left or right flank, Castillejo has made 23 starts in La Liga for Yellow Submarine this season, scoring twice and registering a trio of assists.
But what of interest from City? Was it something to fill the column inches or could there be something to it, with Pep Guardiola possibly seeking strength in depth to avoid overworking Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sané.
During an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Samu was asked specifically about links to Manchester City and how he saw his future.
“Right now, I’m focused here (at Villarreal). I am very comfortable at this club, but you never predict the future and know what will happen by the end of every year,” he told the Barcelona-based sports newspaper.
“But hey, what I do know is that at Villarreal I am very happy.”
A typical footballer’s response, leaving the door ajar for any potential move to a top side. For now though, it appears that despite speculation of a move to Manchester City, young Samu Castillejo is content at the Estadio de la Cerámica. One for the future, perhaps?
