Will Gabriel Jesus Give Manchester City the Edge Next Season?

Manchester City look set to finish fourth in the Premier League this year after drawing with relegation survival hopefuls Middlesbrough. It wasn’t the result they wanted as they could have firmly cemented their place in the top four with a win as local rivals Manchester United could only come up with a draw against Swansea. It’s certainly not been the campaign everybody had hoped for under new boss Pep, but it’s been one that he can build on next year now he’s experienced the league for the first time. Manchester City still look strong in every aspect of their game, but it’s clear they’re not strong enough because of a lack of quality when it comes to finishing and defending.

Could Gabriel Jesus be the Answer?

Gabriel Jesus had an excellent start to his Manchester City career when scoring multiple goals that essentially put him as the number one choice ahead of Sergio Aguero, who was at the time struggling to find any rhythm. Unfortunately for Gabriel, he suffered an injury which put him on the sidelines for a few months and that saw Aguero get a chance to put his career back on track. Since his injury, Aguero has scored goals which have benefitted Manchester City but due to a lack of depth they still haven’t been able to tumble their opponents like they’ve done in the last couple of seasons.

Luckily for Manchester City, Gabriel is now back and has already got on the scoresheet against Middlesbrough on the weekend and he’s beginning to look like a hot prospect for next season. Manchester City don’t have any chance of winning any silverware this season, but if Jesus can build on the form he’s shown this season and take it to the next, Manchester City could well be up there again fighting for the title.

Manchester City Still Need Additions

Jesus could well be the answer for Manchester City when it comes to their attacking play, but it seems another defender could benefit them hugely. Manchester City have still scored plenty of goals this season even without Jesus, but due to a lack of consistency in their back line, they haven’t been able to build on that with more wins. Instead, Manchester City are drawing and losing when they shouldn’t be. If Pep Guardiola has a chance of winning silverware next year he’ll be looking at a couple of additions when it comes to defensive play. Stones has come in and done a job for them, but certainly not one fans would expect. Pep may even look to bolster his goalkeeping options as Claudio Bravo hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations since his £17 million move to the Etihad last summer.

Could Manchester City Be the Pick of the Bunch Next Year?

If Manchester City owners and Pep Guardiola do come to some arrangement about new transfers in the summer and spend big, it would be hard to see Manchester City not be in with a great chance of winning the league next year. Pep Guardiola has only been in the league for a season so he still lacks experience in a league that’s completely different to the rest, so he’ll know by now what sort of players he’ll be after in the summer to give him more depth.

The odds on Manchester City winning the league next year would show they’ve got a real chance of Premier League success, and a couple of player additions would give them even more hope of retaining the title they last won three years ago.

Whether Manchester City even secure a top four place this season remains to be seen, but if they did get Champions League football next year they could even be strong contenders to win that with the help of Gabriel Jesus.
