Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández has revealed that Pep Guardiola is thinking English and hinted that the Manchester City boss could move for young Tottenham superstar, Dele Alli, in the summer.
Speaking to The Sun, the 37-year-old, who now plays for Qatari club Al Sadd, gave some insight into what Pep may be thinking heading into a busy summer for the Blues.
“I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players,” the Spanish World Cup winner said.
“I am sure in the summer he will look also across Europe for players to improve the squad, but also I expect him to look in The Premier League as well.
“At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player.
“Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes his teams to play.
“I am sure he is not going to be a player that Tottenham will want to let go, but we know Manchester City have big resources.”
Could City prise 21-year-old Alli away from White Hart Lane? It seems unlikely, but if the midfielder became available, the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich would provide tough competition. A more realistic target from Spurs may be Kyle Walker, who has seen his odds on joining City slashed today, with several media outlets reporting that he will consider his future in the summer amid interest from both Manchester clubs.
