There could be life yet in Manchester City’s pursuit of French international winger Kingsley Coman, despite Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti appearing to shut the door on any chance of the 20-year-old moving to the Etihad.
“Kingsley Coman is staying here. He is important now and in the future,” Ancelotti told the German press at the end of March, but a new story in Le Parisien has again cast doubt on where the Juventus-owned player will line up next season.
The French newspaper claims that Coman is hesitating on a permanent move to Bayern after two seasons on loan, and the Bundesliga giants have just twelve days remaining to activate their option to buy.
Coman has started just eight league games and no Champions League matches this season after being a regular under Pep, but adding to his concerns are the growing rumours that Bayer Leverkusen wunderkind, Julian Brandt, also a winger, could be heading to the Allianz Arena.
Ancelotti has preferred the experience of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben this season, and Coman’s recent performances in smaller games were ‘less than convincing’ according to Le Parisien, suggesting the youngster is suffering from a lack of game time.
And with Pep Guardiola said to be trying to bring Coman to Manchester, it has given the former PSG player much to think about. If Coman makes it clear that he no longer wants to be at Bayern, City could become the fourth club of his young career.
Coman’s arrival would give City another winger of the style Guardiola appreciates. Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sané have formed a potent partnership, but cannot be expected to play 50-plus games, and with Jesús Navas set to leave and Nolito out of favour, Coman – capable of playing on either flank – would add depth to the squad.
